Opening of new OSI-PANTHERA expeditions on snow leopard monitoring in Nepal

Dear all,
From spring, in addition to expedition in Kyrgyzstan, OSI (Objectif Sciences International) will open expeditions on monitoring of snow leopards (Panthera uncia) and their ecosystem in Nepal.
These expeditions will be part of the research program OSI-PANTHERA managed by Bastien CHAIX and Anne-Lise CABANAT. Nonetheless, all the logistic and pedagogic part will be managed by Clément BURZAWA who has prior experience in this country. Scientific educators who might oversee these expeditions are: Clément BURZAWA, Pierre PEYRET and Julie RODE.

As local culture and field are different of what we know for now in Kyrgyzstan, these expeditions will diverge from them (for instance, no horses for traveling and equipment transportation but we will work with locals, traditionally call Sherpa (To certify a work in the best conditions for this help, a strict ethic charter will be written on that subject)). However, their objective will be the same than in Kyrgyzstan, with the use of the same protocols: study of snow leopard’s populations, of their preys and competitors, on a sample area with scat gathering (for genetic analyses), inventory of evidence of presence and, in a while, camera trap monitoring.

We wish good luck and beautiful observations to the Nepal team who are on this moment ready to begin the expedition in Katmandu for an exploration of the field!
We hope to see you (back) among us on expeditions in Kyrgyzstan and from now, in Nepal.
Don’t hesitate to contact our team for additional details on these new expeditions to come: contact vacances-scientifiques.com .

Za Panthera !
Anne-Lise & Bastien
